 You are not a slut.
You are not a whore.
You are not what people think.
You don’t deserve the abhor.

You didn’t choose polyandry,
It was a nonsensical fate.
A man’s sly desire,
But you get all the hate.

We hail Karn’s sacrifices.
We all feel his pain.
He is held like a hero.
Yours go in vain.

When the rules of a game
Became bigger than your honour.
The respected men, shame,
Pushed humanity to a corner.

Turned a deaf ear to your screams
As you were disrobed to their gaze.
The honourable men errant extremes
But dirt is shoved in your face.

A symbol of rape victim
Slut shamed by the society.
A fodder of the chauvinists,
A pacifier of their insecurity.

But you don’t need our sympathy,
You are fire in disguise.
The sexism,however, is thriving
So I incessantly despise.

You are not a slut.
You are not a whore.
You are not what people think.
You don’t deserve the abhor.

WHO IS DRAUPADI?

Draupadi is a character of Hindu holy book “Mahabharata”. As the story goes, Draupadi was won by Arjun (a prince) in her swayamwar (a process of marriage in Hinduism in ancient times). When Arjun brought Draupadi home and called his mother, Kunti, to see “what he has brought”, his mother, who was meditating at that time, ignorantly told him to distribute whatever he has brought among his five brothers. When her meditation was over she was left aghast at her thoughtless order and told them against it, but Yudhishthir, the eldest brother (who is said to have fallen in love with Draupadi at the first sight), convinced them offering multiple views that it is ethically correct and only fitting that Draupadi got married to each of the five brothers. Draupadi has, since, been a synonym for a prostitute, a dirt that was thrown at her without her choice.

Another tale says that in a game of Chaupad (Indian Poker), Yudhishthir bet and lost Draupadi to the opponent team (consisting of his step brothers). One of the step brothers, stealing this chance, forcibly dragged Draupadi to the court full of honourable kings and princes and began disrobing her. An act, which is not short of rape. While  being disrobed, Draupadi screamed for help, but none of the kings even attempted to save her.
Draupadi was married to five men and yet married to none.

The irony is, this incidence is used to threaten or make fun of women in the current times. The name Draupadi is used as an abuse for women.
